Biography

Afana Ceez, born Paul Chisiano on 7 April 1995, is a Malawian rapper known for his distinct vernacular rap style. A proud Yao from Zomba and now based in Blantyre, he blends academic accomplishment—holding a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and Finance—with a passion for music. Raised partly in Tanzania before returning to Malawi in 2011, Afana Ceez attended St John’s Catholic Secondary School alongside notable artists such as Classic and Gwamba. He began his music journey with Team Gutta, contributing to the track ‘Masache’ featuring Martse, Spyral, Toast, and Zeze. His solo debut ‘Kingpin’ in 2021 earned him a UMP Awards nomination for Best Upcoming Artist. With recognition from Maso Awards and Capital Radio Malawi, and hits like ‘Kadi’ and his 2023 collaboration ‘Chule’ featuring Zeze and Tuno, he has solidified his place in Malawi’s hip-hop scene. Inspired by vernacular rap, he cites Martse, Lil Wayne, and Burna Boy as his major influences. He dreams of winning an international award through music that stands out from the mainstream. A fun personal secret he shares is: ‘ndimayankhulila pa lilime.’
